About Our Instructor

Director/Choreographer: Connie Foutz Monroe

Connie Foutz Monroe is a seasoned choreographer and director with a long-standing passion for blending literature and movement. From 2008–2016, while teaching at Colorado Mesa University, she created and staged many hours of original work inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, weaving poetry and physical theater into compelling performances that resonated with audiences.

With a deep commitment to both dancers and actors, Connie brings her unique vision to Poe’s “Annabel Lee”, guiding performers through a structured improvisation that explores the poem’s haunting beauty. This workshop serves as the first step toward a performance envisioned for the Grand Junction Poe Festivities, with future plans to adapt the piece for film and share it with wider audiences, including the International Edgar Allan Poe Festival in Baltimore, MD.

Connie’s work is rooted in collaboration, imagination, and the power of movement to illuminate timeless stories. She invites you to join her in bringing Poe’s words to life on stage — and beyond.
